Listen to the call of the sacred waters of Tīkapa Moana. Listen to the cry of the riroriro. Look upon the glistening sands of Waiheke. Return to the enduring fires of this land — nourishment for your spirit.

Paora Te Oti Takarangi Joseph

Filmmaker · Author · Cultural host

Paora Te Oti Takarangi Joseph brings cultural storytelling and a living relationship with whenua and wai. His films, books and work with communities give substance to the conversations he shares on the island.

Paora has made films, written books and told a fair few stories. Put him in a van with six strangers and somehow the tour usually turns into a conversation.

Director of Tātarakihi: The Children of Parihaka, Te Awa Tupua: Voices from the River and Māui’s Hook — all listed in the New Zealand International Film Festival archive.

Sharon and Paora already work together on Waiheke. Sharon and her team hold the island logistics; Paora holds the cultural conversation. Each makes room for the other.

Paora normally guides these journeys. If he is unavailable, another approved cultural guide may accompany you.

Born of water and the elements — journeys for the soul.
